5 Ways to Show Gratitude Every Day

Here are 5 things I've learned about gratitude over the years.

1. Don't assume people know how grateful you are. Tell them. A simple, heartfelt "thank you" can make all the difference. In fact, a little gratitude goes a long way. People will move mountains for you when they truly know how much they mean to you.

2. Don't just text, tweet or Facebook message people to say thank you. Write them a handwritten note.

3. Don't just tell people. Show them. This doesn't have to be about buying things. Make them something homemade. Cookies. Bread. A scarf. Whatever it is that you do well.

4. Give people your time freely and generously. It's our scarcest resource. People know that.

5. Make gratitude a part of your to do list. Set reminders on your phone. Put post its on the fridge. "Buy milk, mail bills, send thank you notes."

Develop the habit of showing gratitude every day. You have to be intentional about this. In a world where we live more and more of our lives tethered to devices, multitasking our way through each day, this is easy to miss until November hits.

So remember this:

The beautiful thing about gratitude is that it always inspires more gratitude.
